Ingredient notes and substitute suggestions
Instant ramen: For this quick and easy recipe I have used instant ramen but you can use any noodle of choice. Just the time and method of cooking the noodles will vary depending on what you are using. Cabbage: Use green cabbage in this recipe. You can use napa cabbage too but green cabbage is a better choice. Avoid using red cabbage in this recipe. Greens: I have used spring onion greens. You can also use bok choy. Both can be used too. Roasted white sesame seeds: They add a nice nutty flavor and texture to the dish and also improve the nutritional value of the dish. Red chili sauce: Feel free to use any hot sauce of your choice. Sesame oil: It adds a very tasty nutty flavor to Asian dishes. Vegetable oil: Canola oil or peanut oil can be used too.
Step 2: Add chili flakes and saute for a few seconds. Step 3: Add chopped cabbage and ground black pepper. Step 4: Saute on a high flame for 3-4 minutes or until the cabbage is no longer raw but still crunchy. Step 5: Push the cabbage towards the edges of the skillet to create some space in between. Step 6: Add soy sauce, chili sauce, and vinegar in the center. Saute for a few seconds and then mix everything. Step 7: Cook instant ramen in a separate pot and strain. Step 8: Add cooked ramen to the skillet. Step 9: Add spring onion greens and roasted white sesame seeds. Steps 10 and 11: Stir fry for 3-4 minutes on a high flame while mixing continuously with a pair of tongs. Step 12: Garnish with more roasted sesame seeds. Your quick and easy cabbage ramen is ready to be enjoyed! However, if you want you can serve it with an Asian side dish like garlic broccoli, Chinese eggplant, tofu in chili garlic sauce, gobhi manchurian, or stir-fried snow peas. You can also serve a light Asian soup like sweet corn soup, mushroom tom yum soup, or veg manchow soup with it.
