Key Ingredients
Avocado – When you’re choosing an avocado for your ranch dressing, be sure to look for one that’s ripe. If you’re buying avocados the same day you’ll make your dressing, look for ones with bumpy, dark green (almost black) skin. They should give just a little when you squeeze them gently, but not so much that they indent or feel mushy. If you’re buying them 3-4 days in advance, though, then look for firm, green, smooth avocados, and let them sit out at room temperature to ripen.Mayonnaise – There’s just a little mayo in this dressing to give it that tangy goodness. You can use more if you like, though – just dial down the Greek yogurt to keep your ratios consistent! You can also skip it if it’s not your thing, using more plain Greek yogurt in its place. Add milk to adjust the consistency as needed. Greek Yogurt – Greek yogurt keeps your avocado ranch dressing super light and creamy. If you’d rather, you can use sour cream in its place.
Chef’s Tips
The lemon juice will help prevent the avocado from turning brown before you’ve had a chance to use all your dressing! If you don’t have lemon juice, lime juice and white vinegar will work, too. You can serve your dressing immediately, but I like to refrigerate it at least 30 minutes first so it’s nice and chilled. Totally personal preference! Letting it sit allows the flavors to meld together better. If you overprocess the avocado ranch dressing ingredients, the mayonnaise could separate, which will affect the texture of the dressing. Blend just until you’ve reached your perfect consistency, then transfer the dressing to an airtight container for storing.
