What Makes This Recipe So Good

Rice can be so frustrating on the stove-top, and the exact same method can give you different results from time to time. The Instant Pot is the easiest way to get perfectly cooked jasmine rice every single time. With this method, the rice comes out perfectly fluffy and evenly cooked, all in less than 10 minutes!Jasmine rice is the perfect side dish for a variety of recipes like Pork Stir Fry, Mandarin Chicken, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Air Fryer Salmon with Brown Sugar Crust, and sooo much more. Leftover Instant Pot jasmine rice is also perfect for making fried rice the next day!Depending on the size of your Instant Pot, you could easily double (or even triple) this recipe to make enough jasmine rice for a large group or for meal prep. Just make sure to increase the amount of water you use, so you avoid a “burn” notice on your Instant Pot. For 2 cups dry rice, use 2 ½-3 cups liquid. For 3 cups dry rice, use 3 ½-4 cups liquid. Careful not to overfill the pressure cooker, though! The cook time will stay the same.

Key Ingredients

Jasmine Rice – Make sure you’re using dry, uncooked jasmine rice. Minute rice/instant rice won’t work here – it’ll end up overcooked. If you’re a big fan of rice, you can typically buy it in bulk at the grocery store. It’s great to keep on hand!Water – Liquids are a must, both for cooking rice and for using an Instant Pot. For a little extra flavor, you can use 1 ½ cups vegetable or chicken broth instead of water. You could also try this with coconut water for an Instant Pot rice similar to our coconut rice recipe.

Chef’s Tips

After transferring the Instant Pot jasmine rice to another container, if you notice some has stuck to the bottom of your pot, don’t worry! I’ve got the perfect trick for easy clean-up. Fill the pot ¼-⅓ of the way with water and a squirt of dish soap. Return the pot to the Instant Pot and turn on Sauté mode with “more” heat. Let the soap-water mixture “cook” for 10 minutes or so. It’ll loosen lots of the rice residue on its own, but you can use a silicone spatula to loosen it further if needed. You absolutely must rinse and drain the jasmine rice super well before you add it to the Instant Pot! Rinsing rice removes starch from the outside of the grains, which will allow the rice to absorb the water better as it cooks. If you don’t rinse the rice, there’s a chance it’ll come out sticky or unevenly cooked, and you might get some grains that are tough or dry inside. For fluffy, perfect rice, rinse it really well first.Make sure to quick release the pressure from the Instant Pot. If you use a natural release, your jasmine rice will definitely overcook by the time all the pressure is out!
